can I get pregnant?

Hubby and I have stopped using bc about 3 years ago. 5 years now I have been sick with some form of thyroid problem, then last year they diagnosed me with hashimotos. I am wondering if this can prevent you from becominmg pregnant? Should I get my thyroid in order before even trying? I am 31 years old and time is ticking away!

These are my latest labs values:

Last months lab results...
TSH 5.90 (0.35-5)
T3 - 3.9 (3.5-6.5)
T4 - 13 (9-23)

Re: can I get pregnant?

Yes, TSH that high and T4 that low can make conception very difficult and a full-term pregnancy much less likely.

Having TSH no higher than about 1.2 and free T4 of 17 or 18 will improve your chances immensely. If it were me, I would not attempt pregnancy until these levels have been attained.

If you have measurable TPO antibodies, you should try to reduce them by taking 100 to 200 mcgs of selenium per day. They can be their own risk factor to successful pregnancy.

Why aren't you being treated now? It's unconscionable for a doctor to neglect thyroid health if he/she knows pregnancy is desired.
