Hurthle Cell Adenoma
I had a hemithyroidectomy after they found a huge adenoma (ended up being 5.2cm) on my left gland. The pathology report revealed a hurthle cell adenoma. I had hyperthyroidism as caused by the adenoma, but now 6 weeks post-op I feel just as crappy as I did pre-op (and still showing signs of hyperthyroidism) and have began having some difficulty swallowing again....it's freaking me out!!
Has anyone else had a hurthle cell adenoma? I am a full time student working towards nursing school (one semester before going to nursing school!) as well as having a part time job, keeping me more than busy. I don't want to have to take more time off to have another surgery, but my pathology report did not find clean margins. The surgeon said he didnt think I needed the other half out right now, but was leaving the final decision up to my endo...
Anyone care to share their experience? History of thyroid cancer in the family and I know that hurthle cell adenomas have a tendancy to become malignant after not being treated.
