Help please! Thyroid levels keep getting worse. Any changes I can make?

I was on 50 mg of Levothyroxine my thyroid finally got down to 3.0. Then a few months later it went up to 6.5. The dr uped my dose to 75 mg and it came down to 3.5. Now it's back up to 5.74. What's going on? The dr won't raise my dose unless it goes over 6. They say its normal below 6. I'm still able t loose weight but I have to eat only 900 calories a day. Could PMS cause TSH to fluctuate?

Re: Help please! Thyroid levels keep getting worse. Any changes I can make?

Hi Tracy, if you have a doc that won't increase u less your TSH is over 6 I would be finding a new doc! Normal people generally have a TSH of around 1 just as a guideline for you and a TSH of 3+ can leave you feeling pretty off!
I would be searching for a doc that uses natural thyroid (dessicated) and ask for various tests (Free t4 free t3, antibodies for hashi's, iron, cortisol etc) get your adrenals checked first as if these and under stress it can affect all thyroid treatment and reduce its ability to help you. But the first thing I would do is find a savvy thyroid doc because yours does not sound very up to date on thyroid AT ALL!!
