how long should you give t4 meds to work til you decide to switch or add some t3? also, whats the definitive test to knowing if youre converting to t4 into t3 well? by symptoms or just blood tests alone?

I believe it would be lab tests to indicate where levels are - to know if you are converting well.

But some docs will readily add a small amount of T3 if your symptoms don't improve in a reasonable amount of time.

Someone on here once told me you are converting well if the FT4 and FT3 are within 20% of each other.

** Anybody please correct me if I'm wrong on the conversion ratio %. **

these are my last labs:
tsh 1.13 (0.3-3)
free t4 0.95 (0.58-1.64)
free t3 3.15 (2.5-3.9)

does this mean im converting well? apparently my ft3 last month was 3.75 (2.5-3.9) but i was still so hypo

In my amateur opinion, you seem to be converting well.

Free T4: 0.95 (0.58-1.64) Your FT4 is at 35%
Free T3: 3.15 (2.5-3.9) And your FT3 is about 46%

Most people feel best with their FT4 in the top third of the range (70%+)and FT3 at least mid-range (50%). if I remember correctly, you want the two to be within 20% of each other. Which yours are.

thank you pam! these labs were done january 21! on 37 mcg of synthroid. now im on 50 mcg

my next labs are due first week of march that will be 6 weeks! we'll see how my labs look then
