Ferritin level question

What are optimum levels for ferritin for someone who has hashimoto's? My test results:
Ferritin levels were 26 .... reference is 10 - 291

Would these results warrant treatment? Could this be increased with iron supplements?
Any advice, greatly appreciated.

Re: Ferritin level question

Hi Gabriella,
My test results are the EXACT same as yours for ferritin. My regular pcp said 26 was fine, but the dermatologist says he recommends to supplement if your ferritin is below 50. Probably doesn't help much, just seems like everyone has differing opinions.

Re: Ferritin level question

When you say the suggestion was to supplement, what do you mean exactly? I have seen people on this board mention supplementing with certain vitamins first before any medications. Thank you Shelly.

Re: Ferritin level question

Hi Gabriella,

Increasing your iron store (ferritin) would be a good idea as though in range it is low.
Using a good brand of iron supplement will boost this and about 50 will give you the
Level needed for a woman.
Try and increase with diet also, red meat green veg. Etc and vitamin C helps absorption. Drinking tea (tannin) inhibits iron absorption so don't drink tea at the same time
