Anyone have an MRI for TMJ? - TMJ Disorder -TemporoMandibular Joint Message Board

Has anyone had an MRI for you TMJ? My Dr. has me schedule for one. He says I have a definite click in each jaw but my discomfort is only on the right side. So he ordered an MRI of the rt. TMJ. What can I expect? Thank you!

I am having an MRI tomorrow on both jaw joints. I'll let you know what I find out.

They use a miniture thing that works like a small jack. Will only open your mouth as far as you feel comfortable. It has been so long since I had one on my TMJ but the worst thing is the noise.

my doc wouldn't even let me have an mri done he said i would be wasting my money and now that i think about it he was probably right i mean whatever the mri shows its not going to change your treatment plan at all even if your disks are displaced the only thing they can do is fit u with a splint or more muscle relaxants if you haven't been given those already

I had an MRI done this summer and for me it was very useful. It was the only way for the docs to really see what was going on in my joint. They suspected something highly unusual but couldn't tell from the tomographs. The MRI confirmed it. We were also then able to send my MRI results to a TMJ conference with my doc and then off to specialists around the country to get other opinions (mostly to avoid surgery).

The MRI is not fun. It's really noisy and long, and you have to crank that plastic thing open in your mouth. But its WAY more fun than an arthrogram!! Good luck.
