Smile just been diagnosed too

Hi there! I have just been diagnosed after a long time of pain, headaches and other strange things going on!
I had 4 wisdom teeth removed and since then I have had trouble, which got worse 6 months ago. Now I have pain in my jaw, tensing sensation in the jaw, ear fullness and pain sometimes. Sensetive scalp and sometimes burning on the scalp and one sided headaches, which I have been told was migraines. Been on clonidine for 6 weeks no improvement, which led me to believe it wasnt migraine. Conventional painkillers dont help and Im allergic to ibuprofen. The pain is unbareable sometimes and the pains in the temples are the worst. I feel sick with pain and I want to take a sledge hammer to my face sometimes, as it too affects my face. No doctor would believe me and the neuro told me it was migraine and the shooting pains didnt fit into a neurological catagory. There they basically dont exist. Given on docs and neuros. Have got no life cos of the pain. Was told by dentist I have this and referred to my local hospital. Cant have any dental work on teeth till I can open jaw wider!!!! Im glad someone finally realised I was in soooo much pain. And I am so pleased im not going insane! The dental practise was a bit grotty and wasnt much to look at, no high tech equipment or anything, but they were great and honest and sympathetic about it all. Least he diagnosed it hey. I use no pain meds, im gonna try diazapam and I use ice and hot water bottles! I huess ill have my splint made soon. Has anyone else in uk seen anyone thats helped??
hopefully Ill feel better soon, Ive been very depressed!
does anyone know if amitryptilin has helped, neuro wanted me to take it!!!
good luck to everyone, as I know a lot of you pay for your treatment, im lucky NHS!!!!!

Cool

Hi Cutie and welcome to the board

I know just how you feel, when I was 17 I had all my wistom teeth pulled out and the hell started there. I went to tons of doctors, specialest, nero, etc.. they kept telling me it is mirgranes..then it was something else...knowone ever mention it could be tmj....none of the medication they gave me worked at all,I thought I was going crazy knowone believe how much pain I was in...this went on for years I am 23 now, and just found out about a year ago it was tmj..I suffer really bad like you, bad headaches that wont go away, pain behind my eyes, pain in my jaw, it hurts to talk, laugh, eat....I know it is hard, but try to stay positive, you can let your tmj win this battle.....

Depression is normal when you suffer from tmj, the hell each of us go though each day, it is amazing we make it day to day. I would NOT recommond amitryptilln, it just didnt work for me and made me gain a lot of weight, ask for NORTITRYPTLINE (I am not sure if I spell it right) it works better for the depression and for the pain of tmj, for me, but everyone is different...look it up on the internet..

Who pays for your treatment? I would love to have someone pay for everything for me...lol....

Take Care, and good luck!

Starr

I used Amitryptilin. It defiantly helped my sleep for a while. after about a month it quit working.

I now take 1 mg of Xanax per night. I sleep like a rock and getting sleep is the difference between a good or bad TMJ day. I am aware Xanax is addicting. I don't seem to have a problem with my daily 1 mg.
Any drug can be abused. Just be careful with any medication. Good Luck.

Thanks to all of you who replied to my post!
As for who pays for my treatment- the national health service does here in england! I live in cambridgeshire england!
I get all my treatment paid for me including any splints ill need. I feel really bad for those of you in the states who have to pay for your treatment!
I had a good day yesterday till I started to get shooting pains in the right side of my head. And today im depressed, the dog head butted me on my tmj side and now im in pain and my partner isnt being very supportive of my tmj. He was kinda helpful while he thought it was migraines and now I have tmj I think he thinks its no big deal, ie its just my jaw! It annoys me as it affects my head and I get facial burning etc. I feel sick and tired all the time. I have 2 children and am only 22. hes 22 too and I think he resents me as he gave up work to look after me and the kids as I was in screaming pain all day long.! I think they all thought it was in my head and I was going insane or something, no one knows what to say to me now though, I feel really isolated!!!! HELP!!!!!!!
Bye!
