I've noticed that advil cold and sinus (don't ask why)
really helps the headaches, and tightness of muscles.
Also, sleeping on your back with a pillow that supports
the neck also helps. Calcium citrate and magnesium before bedtime also helps calm the muscle spasms.
Working out at the gym also helps me. RELIEVING STRESS helps a lot too if you can!!!!!
Your posture is important too, chin up shoulders back.
These pointers might help some.

Thanks for posting about what you've found helpful. If anyone also has any home remedies or other sorts of Tmjd therapies they find helpful, I hope they will post them as well, in this folder.

I wanted to mention something that's been helping me lately.....

A few months ago I wrote about a water filled splint that's available to buy over the internet (it's quite cheap)

When my dentist had me using this 'water splint' over the summer, it helped a bit at night, but not really much at all during the day.

Over the past week though, this splint has helped me considerably ( I believe I've got more typing done over the past week than the three weeks previous, put together)

I believe the reason why this water splint is helping more now, than before, is that since the summer my 'bionator device' has pulled my jaw forward into a more correct position.

I think part of what 'causes clenching' is your jaw being out of position, so now that my jaw's in a bit better position, I seem to want to clench less on this splint. One of the things I like about this splint is that it doesn't need constant adjustments, as most splints do. The water is what brings about the balanced bite and balanced muscles.

Now if they could only come up with a splint of this type that would last a bit longer....

A water splint? wear did you order it from? I would love to try it, I have not found a splint that helps me with my pain at all!

Hi Starr,

I'm hoping it's ok if I mention the name of this splint, as I'm not trying to advertise for them, and I think this might be similar to talking about an nti or other 'type' of splint.

The splint I've used is called an Aqualizer, and there's a web page where you can order it from on the internet. Just search around, and you'll likely find it.

p.s. As I've been waiting to get another one of these splints ( ny splint dried up you see...lol ! )I've recently been making my own (very primitive splints)

I'm sticking ultrasound gel in baggies and sticking them on each side of my jaw. It does help some, since it still provides some of that 'floating action'
