In my experience, TMJ was the last diagnosis. Most gps and drs want to rule out everything else that your symptoms present. Only after the ringing in my ears became a big problem to me did I get a diagnosis from an ENT. All he did was ask me to open my mouth and out came this BIG "POP" from my jaw and he saw the deviation when I opened my mouth. So, you may have to do a bunch of testing before you get the diagnosis of TMJ. The best thing you could do is see a dentist who specializes in TMJ and see what he/she has to say.
