Hi everyone!

I have been using a non steroid anti inflammatory cream for my jaw pain for the past 3 weeks. It seems to help quite alot. It doesn't do anything for the dizziness or plugged ears but it definately helps the pain.

What is the name of it? I would love to get it, I have so much pain in my jaw area...

My OMFS prescribed this sort of pharmaceutical for me to try back in about 2001. The pharmacist had to mix it and at that time it was not at all widely available. For me, I didn't find that it helped at all with my joint particular type of joint pain. I don't tolerate ibuprofen in large doses (it blurs my vision) so this was why he suggested to try the cream. Apparently it is not absorbed systemically. It also didn't work for me. (I have had many TMJ surgeries and I also have bilateral total artificial joints that have been in place successfully since Jan. 1992.)

Now, in April 2003, there might be some new creams that have evolved from the one. It was very expensive too, by the way. This is the first time I've seen anyone mention this type of medication.

I also tried an anti-inflammatory cream at one point and it didn't help me either. I had to get it from a compounding pharmacy.

Also of interest, regarding topical treatment, is this study that used an intra-oral ketoprofen gel to reduce tension-type headache.

"A distinct area of maxillary alveolar tenderness (MAT) has been consistently palpated in migraine, tension-type headache (TTH) and post-traumatic headache, even in the headache-free state. Located in the maxillary third molar apical area, even if edentulous, this zone of tenderness also occurs in facial pain. This marker is frequently described as lateral pterygoid muscle spasm, although this muscle is inaccessible to palpation.8,9"
