Post Questions - Educate me Please :-)

How severe are they?

I have developed a sensitivity to noise which has all but diminished my social life. I can't go to the pool hall on the weekends with friends, because the music is to loud. I can't go to Karokee with friends from work every week like I used to... it's to loud.

I have tinittus that only bothers me when it's silent. I HATE silence. I always have something on, and I have always feel asleep with music on, so no real lifestyle change there. I fear tinuttis that rings LOUD and I am aware of all day.. that is my worst fear, besides deafness itself.

I don't even know if I have TMJ yet. I will know soon I hope, as I am a prime candidate and I have a lot of it's symptoms.

At least if I have TMJ, I know from the quality of people on this site that I am in good company!

My ear sensitivity was better when I started wearing earplugs. I would wear Mack's earplugs, they are made of silicon. With these types I had the ability to form them to my ears. The earplugs help to filter out the harsher noises. I would walk around like I was a stereo without its cover on. Since I have been going to pt my ears have gotton way better. I am now almost all the way out of my earplugs which I find to be a miracle since I have been wearing them everyday for years. I still can't go to the movies without them, but I feel lucky that I can even go ( I was not able to before). Since I got tmj from a theme park I am not so quick to go back, so I can't tell you about those. I have been trying knew places now without earplugs but I do still bring a pair, just in case. Some places are still really loud even when I wore earplugs. When do you find out legally if you have tmj? I had ear tests done and they only told me that I HAVE REALLY SENSITVE HEARING,(that was the whole reason why I had the test done). When my ears began to be really sensitive it concerned me because before I did not have that great of hearing. Even when I was really little I had tubes in my ears because I could not hear motor sounds. I just recently quit my job, but at the school the kids could not pull anything past me because I heard it all. Sometimes I just had to let them slide, so they could be kids. My ear problems have always been the one symptom that no one could ever figure out...until now.

I have an appointment on May 1st with a TMJ doctor.

Yes, I am in the same boat. I had tubes as well when I was a kid. My hearing was "ok", but since I had my braces (i can't remember being this way before) my voice seemed to be louder when I talked. I'd get weird pulsating in my ears when I finish talking. Silence is now this roaring head noise.. but I am good at "controlling it". I have ALL ear symptoms, but now I am getting other things to. Jaw pains, temple pains, pressure headaches etc etc.. all stuff I can say with confidence I didn't have much off before my braces 4 years ago.

My hearing test was fine. My ears are sensitive to noise, I cringe when I hear certain noises. Did you know that ear plugs are only to be used in environments that "everyone" would have ear damage from (ie: Concert, LOUD movie theater etc). If you block your ears from re-adjusting to sounds, it can make your sensitivity worse. If you want more information about that, let me know and I will post a link for you.

I went to my doctor because it all started as this weird feeling in my right ear, that I chalked up to ear damage from 2 concerts I went to back to back... but now I am not so sure because of all the other symptoms I have.

Also, it's getting worse. When damage is done, it's usually done. My ears however are better some days, full the next day, popping the next day, sensitive sometimes and fine some other times. I have a whole bunch of EAR symptoms, but the ENT I saw told me I have ETD and the spray would fix it. Spray made me feel worse. Ok, good.. I have ETD. Now, I wanna know WHY.. and I think TMJD has a good chance of being the culprit.

I just seem to fit a bunch of the criteria, so better safe then sorry. I also see ANOTHER ENT/Octologist in June. She's supposed to be one of the best in our area.

I would love the info on ear sensitivity and earplugs.
I am no doctor but it sounds like tmj to me. Do you also get headaches?

hey,

Here is a disussion on the Hyperausis site (sound sensitivity). It's scary to read what some of these people go through.
