Hi! I have been reading your post with SueSt about your experiance with wearing braces. I like to ask you, what type of braces did you wear? Was it functional jaw orthodontic (down and forward forces) or the traditional kind (up and back forces)? I have read alot of your posts before, but I don't remember what you said about your braces.
It's me again, Sandi. Thank you so much for your response about what braces you had worn. Functional jaw orthodontic seems to be a much better treatment than traditional.
I want to ask you another question regarding this treatment. I assume that you did have a MRI done on your tmj before treatment, right? What condition were your joints in?
No, I did not have an MRI done. I had Panoramic X-rays, Transcranial X-rays, Tomograms, and Joint Vibration Analysis done. My Tomograms clearly indicated that both discs were displaced anteriorly (forward).
Is splint therapy realigning your disks or how is that working? My right disk is out (jaw deviates so bad I look like the bad guy in the movie scream) that I will be seeing Autumn's OS at the end of the month.
I have been using a hard bottom splint since Oct and it has helped some (ringing in ears, muscles spasms, headaches) but not helping the deviation.
In my case, my lower jaw was too far back, which "forced" my discs to slip forward. By wearing a splint over my lower teeth, it brought my jaw down and forward, allowing both discs to slip back into place. I had to wear my splint for 1 year (as I was a pretty severe case according to my dentist).
