Talking What treatments have you used???

I would like to know about the treatments you have used to treat your TMJ. What treatments have you used and what were effects did they leave on you? Was this a long or short term treatment? How long did the effects last, did you need to use them again? Any info would be very helpful.

Carina,

I had the tmjd for 8 years. My first treatment consisted of wearing a bite plate for three months for 24/7, even while eating. It helped the headaches mainly. Then after that, I had to wear a different bite plate at night only. I got a little better as time went on, maybe 2 years or so after. But it didn't cure my tmjd, only relieved the extra pain in the joints from the clenching at night. I still wear the bite splint after all these years, and I am considering changing something, maybe the bite plate to something else, or stop wearing it. I really don't know at this point wait now. I am just looking at my other options.

That's just a brief history.

Sandi

Hi Carina!!!!
Welcome to our lovely board!
I have had splint therapy, physcial therapy, been seen by dentists and tmj specialists. I also had x-rays done (still waiting for the results to come in). How did you get tmj? What type of symptoms are you facing with? Have you been diagnosed with tmj by a dentist yet? If so did they refer you to a tmj specialist? One o fthe biggest things that you should find out is if your tmj is joint or muscular. With this information you will be able to be lead in the right direction for your own circumstance.
Welcome again!
Heather
