After reading all hpeb has had to say regarding TMJD I'm thinking that I also suffer from it.
I've always had problems with grinding my teeth at night. And I catch myself clenching my jaws a few times during the day.
Two days ago I noticed that the right side of my face hurt to touch, Right in front of the bottom part of my ear. It feels swollen and there is a kind of bump there(?). Now last night I woke up a bunch of times as I normally do, But this time I had pains around my temples. Burning pains, And when I would relax my jaws the pain would go away within a minute or two.
Does this sound severe?. Also, I've been trying to find a specialist but I'm not sure exactly what to look for. I see tons of dentists but nothing that says "TMJ Specialist". Any ideas on what I should be looking for?.
Also, Too add. Often in the morning I have to press on the left side of my face. To put my jaw back in place, Or else I can't open my mouth completely. I usually have to do it 5-10 times before it goes away.
Last night however, My jaw was feeling out of place. I had to press on the left side of my face a few times. Its never happen like that before. Its usually just when I wake up in the morning.
Hi! Sorry that you had to find this board under these circumstances. While I am definitely not an expert, there is very little doubt that you need to see someone who works with TMJ disorders. This dentist or oral surgeon hopefully would be able to find the source of your problem. A good place to begin a search is at www.aacfp.org/referral.html . My dentist is also a member of the ICCMO. You can do a search for TMJ and jaw locking that might help you to understand the situation a little better. Hopefully someone on the board that has had jaw locking can help you out as well.

Hi hbep. Yes I have read about your diagnosis, I bet your very happy to finally be able to put your mind at ease.
As for me, I'm not getting dizzy much any more, My head is still in a cloud though (Thats the worst symptom of them all IMO). My ears are still ringing and my right ear is still slightly sensitive to certain loud or high pitched sounds, But that seems to be getting better. But on another note my right ear seems to be ringing louder.
I just hope sometime in the near future this all comes to a end. Though, The anti-depressants I'm on help me to deal with it, Its still there *sigh*.
I'm seeing my ENT the 27th of this month and I have yet to schedule a appointment to see a dentist or a TMJD specialist.
Thanks for your concern hbep, I hope things start looking up for you soon, If they haven't already.
