Need advice for pain - Please! - TMJ Disorder -TemporoMandibular Joint Message Board

Hi,

I have yet to locate and get to a TMJ specialist. We are on a very limited dental insurance plan (Aetna DMO) and may have to change. I live in the Princeton,NJ area? Anyone know a good dentist? What can I do for the pain until I see someone? I am trying not to talk, eat hard things, or smile. Both ears and jaws, my gums, my sinuses, and my neck hurt. At night my eyes and head aches as well. I have only tried Advil (not impressive) and have taken 2 at night along with a bit of Lorazapam (tranquilizer) in order to sleep. Should I ask my GP for a muscle relaxer?

Please advise!!!!! I am ready to take anything - heroin, morphine, you name it.

Hello,

What has finally helped me alot with the pain is taking the muscle relaxer flexeril 3 hours prior to bedtime. If you cannot get a prescrition for it from your GP another thing that might help some is applying moist heat to the area. For some reason Advil didn't help my headaches but aspirin did. I took Ascriptin the coated one to protect my stomach. But I took them for so long that they didn't work either. Alot of people say Aleve helps to, but I have never tried it.

Hi!

Aleve works much better for me than anything else. Tylenol does nothing. Of course, these are just the over-the-counter medicines.

Hi--

Just a thought, but my medical insurance is paying for my treatment. My doctor (an oral surgeon) doesn't use a diagnosis code of tmj and everything is being covered as medical.
