Hey Tiffany,
My PT told me that the clumsy thing was all part of the fun of TMJ. She said when there's swelling in the facial area, the body has difficulty balancing. IE, when you hold your arm out to your side, you don't need to look to know where it is. Your brain just knows spacially where your arm is. With the swelling in your face, your brain is confused and has difficulty figuring out where everything is overall...if you close your eyes is it worse?
I fall over backwards; it's so weird! She said it's normal though and that once the swelling is reduced and I retrain my muscles in my face...put my tongue in the proper resting position etc...the dizziness and clumsy dork act will go away....it has gotten a little better overall since my surgery, but first thing in the AM or when I make a sudden movement, I have no depth perception and I tend to trip or walk into walls!
