Welcome to all of you,

I bumped up a couple of posts that might be helpful and answer some questions for you.

"Can anyone describe TMJ?", The 2nd entry is an old post of Marlene's that Tiffany has retyped of the Kinnie-Funt Index of Head, Neck and Facial Pain, and TMJ Dysfunction. This list has been invaluable to most of us.

"A World of Info on an Old Disease", is a compilation of information and symtoms that I put together a while back. It's long, but it lists some symtoms and connections to other parts of our bodies that I had never seen before. When you start looking at each muscle and the part it plays in your symtoms, it's a little easier to understand some of the weird sensations and pain.

I hope this will help each of you,

Cymy Sue

Thanks!.......I know all of the symptoms of TMJ but my problem is it's hard for me to differintiate between what is coming from chronic post surgical neck muscle pain and TMJ. I have been blaming this on my cervical fusion for almost 2 years even though I knew I had TMJ....I guess it's a lot worse than I thought. I also read that certain surgeries can make TMJ worse. I also do not have much jaw pain or the more typical symptoms of TMJ so that also made me wonder. I appreciate your response.

Hi Cymy Sue, and Tiffany:

Thank you. Before I found this board, I had no idea what was wrong with me. I'd always thought TMJ had to do with the jaw bone and since I could move that, I figured I didn't have TMJ. Also, several of the 13 dentists I've seen have checked me for TMJ, mostly by having me open and close my mouth and move it from side to side. These movements aren't a problem, and I was told I didn't have TMJ. Yet I have 2 classic symptoms - grinding and my teeth don't fit - and not one of these dentists referred me to a TMJ specialist.

From reading on this board, I was able to match the symptoms I've had for 1-1/2 years, to TMJD. You don't know how helpful it is to have all of you writing here. It's such a valuable resource. It also helps to know others are going through all this mess too. Hopefully we'll all come out of it okay. I see my first TMJ dentist in a week and a half. I'm hoping I'm heading in the right direction, and that he can help me.

Anyway, just wanted to say thank you to everyone who posts here.

Arleen
