I am going to get a cervical neck MRI? Will that also show my TMJ, as someone I know suggested? Or should I suggest I get an MRI for my jaw joint alone?
Hi from what I know you would need a seperate MRI for your TMJ as they place special things right over the jaw....I'm not a doctor so you might want to ask your doctor or your specialist.....Jill
My son had MRI's about a month and a half ago. One of them was of the neck, a separate one of the joints was done, too. From what I've been told, you need a (TMJ) MRI done to access the joints.

I'm quite sure that you would need a separate MRI for your TMJ. They have you open and close your mouth (if you can!) and bite on a plastic thing and then take films of the movement of your joint. I had one done last summer and it was very helpful--and revealing.
Usually a good tmj specialist will request an mri of the
tm joints to furthur assess diagnosis and treatment plans. Usually cervical neck mri is to rule out other problems like neck/back vertebrae and spinal problems.
I had an mri of the tm joints and I also had a cervical xray of the neck, spine, and pelvic areas by a chiropractor.
