Question about splint payment - TMJ Disorder -TemporoMandibular Joint Message Board

Hey board:

For those who live in Canada, does a splint have to be paid for completely up front, or is it possible to pay it off monthly? I'm not sure if I would have the cash to buy a splint on the spot, and I'm just wondering what kind of payment methods there are.

Hi Sheldon:

I think it depends on the dentist. Some may be willing to work out plans with the patient, some may not. Dr. Sigesmund's office will accept post-dated cheques. I didn't get into all the details of the payment plan yesterday. I believe you give them a payment up front ($500 sticks in my mind, but that may not be correct)

The receptionist in most dentists' offices will give you this info over the phone. Ask when you make the appointment.

Hi Sheldon,

I was seeing Dr. Rondeau in London. I believe I paid a small lump sum payment on one of my earlier visits, and then monthly payments for about 4 months after that. Once we realized that the splint therapy wasn't helping me he stopped charging me altogether. If you're concerned about a payment plan, you could try to get a credit card with a relatively low interest rate. That's what I did.
