Hi Dan,
My splint does cover all of my teeth. It's a bottom splint with a flat bite plane. It's has barely 1mm of acrylic between my teeth. I have not had any discomfort with it and started seeing improvement in symtoms I had suffered for years, right away.

My Dentist does not advertise as a TMJ Specialist, but probably knows as much about it or more than anyone I have ever been to. He has a real nice office , but he's earned it with hard work and not over charging. His prices have always been below the norm for all types of Dental work according to what I see here. He has a wonderful manner with people, never rushed. I guess that explains why he doesn't have to advertise.

Thanks very much for replying. Your story of one who has battled this crap for so long and has now, at long last, come upon relief, is terrific. It's a shame you had to go through all that other stuff when a guy you had been seeing anyway was able to help you, by reading/studying and learning all he could about this disorder (provoked possibly in part by your story). Do you use the TENS unit also, or is your treatment strictly splint-oriented? Alabama is a pretty good-sized state. I've done some work in the Birmingham area (Hoover) and missed out on a nice job in Huntsville (rats). Where in 'Bama are you, if you don't mind me asking?

Just the splint. No tens ever or even heat, anymore.
I live exactly halfway between Birmingham and Huntville. My Dentist is in Birmingham. We lived close to Hoover for several years before moving to the country. My husband still works in Birmingham.

The 10 years that my Dentist was involved in Extented Training regarding TMJD Treatment and Splint Therapy, my "Former" OS was telling me to never put a splint back in my mouth. He said it would not benefit me at all and might even cause problems. He even went as far as to tell me to never let anyone else touch my face or mouth without his approval. I can't figure out who was more stupid, me or him.

A couple more questions, if you don't mind. You say the splint covers your teeth--does it wrap around your teeth, or are there wires or hooks to hold it in place? My wife has general tooth pain, and feels very uncomfortable with her previous splint in as it completely "wraps" around her teeth and feels very tight. Do you think your dentist would mind a phone call from us asking questions, or even an appointment?

No hooks or wires and perfectly smooth. It fits completely over my teeth just tight enough to stay on.

I told him about this "Support Board" a couple of months ago and how hard it was for people all over the country to find help. He told me he would be happy to consult with anyone's Dentist or help anyone he could. Dr. Robert Connor. He's a few miles north of Hoover.
