Cool adjusted today the good an bad

well today i saw the ortho/tmj/dentist/my all in one GREAT guy, it very well slight adjustment to the splint nothing major to report other than the splint part of my treatment has about three months left , then the braces will be realy worked on at the molors to get the upper molors down an the lower molors up,this will make my stable near perfect bite, however i was told this would take about 6 to 12 months more in BRACES an i have a full mouth of them, you know i would realy like to be free from braces before i hit my 47 birthday in 2004, but the realy good news is my disk is giving me NO pain , so i guess i'll put up with being a METALMOUTH for a bit longer, joe martin

That's wonderful news! I'm glad you're not experiencing more pain from braces. What kind of bite did you have before? (e.g. open, cross, over, under bite?)

hello, yes it was good news , if things go as well as they have i'll be out of active treatment by july next year, not that i'm fussing but it's been forever since i could feel teeth without BRACES on them total time will be a little over three years, i had on overbite the headgear is helping that along with an openbite at the molors wich they have never realy hit, so it is nice to be out of pain an my teeth hitting better that in told has help a GREAT deal with getting me out of tmj pain, i still have torn cartlage an ligaments strain but recapturing the disk with the upper an lower splints have REALY worked well for me i thank GOD, i feel better now than i have in many years , but like most of us here if i don't do as im told by my experts i'll be back in the same boat agian , been there done that, an don't wish to go there ever agian, hope that things are getting better for you, joseph martin

What I don't understand is I have been told that TMJ should be treated before braces. I don't understand how your jaws can sustain the pressure braces puts on them. My orthodontist wants to get the TMJ under control and taken care of before doing braces. How is it you can be in braces and a splint at the same time?
Tiffany

That's a good question, Tiffany...I have thought of that too...how can a person wear braces and a splint at the same time?

Any thoughts on this Joseph?
