Hi folks. New to the board. Just wanted to run my story by you and look for feedback. 31 year old male. I was told I had TMJ years ago but I've never had problems except for my joint popping if I opened my mouth too wide. About five years ago I had a good year or so of awful migraines. Pain in temples around eyes- usually put me down for 6-8 hours. Those went away and haven't had one since. One month a go I started getting lightheaded and a little dizzy. I've now been that way ever since it started. Never leaves, just comes on in varying degrees. Went to the Dr and had MRI's and bloodwork. Nothing. I have noticed my jaw cracking when I chew something tough and I've been grinding my teeth at night.
Any ideas and thanks for looking at my situation.
Sure sounds like TMJ to me. I would suggest you start looking for a dentist who's practice is limited to TMJ patients, or has a high percentage of TMJ patients, and has taken the appropriate courses to treat TMJ (and not just one day/weekend seminars). Conservative treatment with splints is usually the first "course of action". It usually takes a lot of time and effort (as most here will attest to) to find just the "right" dentist.
Glad to see you made it. how's the Foggy brain? if you feel up to it, you may want to search in this board for information. Check words like, lightheaded, foggy, spaced out, etc. there's lots of us out there! Good luck

It sounds like you carry a lot of tmj symptoms, but are going to all th ewrong places. I suggest that the first step is get it diagnosed. A regular dentist can diagnose you, but most of the time they don't specialize in the field. Then you have a couple of options go to a tmj specialist or a neromuscular dentist. From my experience tmj specialist have all differnet types of ideas but neromuscular dentists usually share the same type of philosophy. the nero's will be more expensive but they have a lot more tests they like to run on you.
Things to get done:
tomograph x-rays - these show your actual tmj joint with your discs/ make sure they do on of a front view
physical therapy/ who specializes in tmj/ they should be doing ultrasounds on your jaw joint, going inside your mouth trying to realx the muuscles/ Whatever happens you should NOT be in more pain then when you arrived
MRI- I have not had this done yet but a lot of people on the board have and have fealt better afterwards
