So, do you think I belong in the TMJ club?
Two years ago, I saw 2 dentists and an oral surgeon for ear fullness, occasional jaw pain, bite changes and a strange sensation that all my teeth were loose and shifting. X-rays, exams indicated the teeth were fine, jaw looked good, etc. One dentist made a night guard for me, since I am a clencher, and in several months (after a prolonged coughing spell from bronchitis) my problems vanished.
I continued to wear the splint, and had little or no symptoms at all. I thought my problem was solved.
I've spent this whole summer battling a low level sinus infection, and noticed a lot more headaches than usual. I clench a lot more during the summer, as I have a special needs daughter with behavior challenges that I tend non-stop during summer. A few weeks ago, my front teeth became more sensitive, and the gums were swollen and sometimes bleeding. The location would change from day to day, and they weren't really painful.
Two weeks ago, I noticed ear fullness, popping, and general "tiredness" during chewing, etc. I had 2 migraine type headaches in the last week, along with severe anxiety/PMS symptoms. On Monday, I felt like my chew was "off" and it just wasn't much fun to eat. At dinner last night, I was chewing a dinner roll when all of a sudden, something felt WRONG.
Today I've had pain ranging from a dull ache in my jaw, to sharp pains in my chin, ear, roof of mouth. The pain "travels around" from minute to minute. One tooth in particular seems VERY sensitive.
I went to the dentist on an emergency visit (not my usual dentist, as he's on vacation, OF COURSE) and he felt that, once again, the teeth are fine. He recommended NSAIDS, rest, soft food, etc.
Does my tale sound familiar? Anyone else have the sensation that their teeth are about to fall out? It's a very scary feeling, and the dentists really give me strange looks about that one?
Any help is appreciated. Sorry this is so long.
