| | Tens users-electrode placement
For anyone who owns a tens machine, which you use for pain therapy, which muscles, specifically are you tensing ? I used to tens only the 'lateral ptyergoids', the muscles near the jaw joint, since these are the only muscles which the tens machine was used on, during my dental appointments.
But in the past few weeks I seem to be noticing something. There are times when I feel pain in my jaw muscles, and so I tens my ptyergoids as a result....but this doesn't reduce my pain and may sometimes increase it. However....if at these times I use the tens on my masseter muscles instead (the ones around my cheeks), then I find that the pain is reduced.
So the trick I'm finding is to figure out at any time whether it's my ptyergoids that are hurting...or my masseters which are in pain. The reason I say this is a trick, is that sometimes the pain can be reffered from one place to another....Sometimes it 'feels' like one set of muscles are in pain, whereas the pain is actually originating from the other set of muscles.
Has anyone else encountered this sort of thing as well ?
