I ran across this, dated January 17,2003. Rather interesting for those of us who have the implant.

A partial TMJ prosthesis consists of a meniscectomy and placement of a metallic glenoid fossa metal prosthesis (Christensen fossa prosthesis) in place of the meniscus, such that a natural condyle articulates with a metal fossa prosthesis. There is inadequate evidence of the safety and effectiveness of partial joint prostheses in the treatment of TMD. The U.S. Food and Drug *****istration Dental Products Advisory Panel reviewed clinical studies of the Christensen fossa prosthesis, and advised the FDA to approve the total prosthesis, but to not approve the partial joint prosthesis because of a lack of clinical data on its safety and effectiveness. Although additional data was submitted to the FDA for approval, the information is uncontrolled and has not been published in a peer-reviewed journal.

Very interesting indeed. Wonder how many doctors are still using the partial in spite of this? Last time I talked to my oral surgeon's secretary, she said he is doing this surgery every week!!! Uggh, Can't imagine, I know of others that went to him, same implant, same problems as me. It is obvious he doesn't care what happens, long as that payment is made in advance. What kills me is he wants money upfront to take the rotten implant out. He could care less about the problems it is causing. That almighty $$$$ means more than a person's health. So much for the oath, "do no harm".
