The daily recommende dosage of magnesium is 400 mg / day (100% of daily dosage). I started taking magnesium supplements two nights ago. I take 250mg at night, and 250mg in the morning. In just 48 hours the supplements have stopped my nighttime clenching, loosened my muscles, and my popping and clicking is nearly gone. I never thought that four years of those symptoms could end that fast!
One thing that I heard is important is to keep a 2:1 ratio of magnesium to calcium. Most people have MUCH more calcium than magnesium because calcium is in most of the foods we eat (cheese, milk). So if you get the supplements, make sure you don't get that magnesium / calcium combined. Check the internet and see how often you eat those foods. I don't understand why doctors never mention this kind of stuff.
