| | Is this TMJ pain or worse?
I know I have TMJ, and I'm in the process of being fitted for a splint. I have jaw tightness, clicking, popping, and soreness when I eat or talk for a while. My neck, head, and shoulders are also extremely tight, painful and sore. I sure hope the splint helps.
My question relates to a sharp, shooting nerve pain that I have in my face. It is a sharp, stabbing pain that is usually around my ear, either on the outside of the ear on the cartilege areas or way deep inside the ear. The "attacks" come on where I'll get a number of these sharp stabbing pains for a few seconds each right in a row. This may last for a few minutes, or occur throughout the day periodically.
I just assumed it was TMJ-related, but maybe I'm wrong. I've read about trigeminal nerve stuff, and I'm scared to death if I might have that. Can TMJ cause sharp, shooting nerve pain in episodes like this?
I also have a funny sensation where if I touch the lower left side of my face lightly, the inside of my left ear will itch and tingle like crazy while I'm doing that.
I know this sounds weird, but I'm so new to TMJ, and I sure hope I don't have this trigeminal nerve problem.
