Question dental orthopedics

Anyone have experience with dental orthopedics? Is there any relation to neuromuscular dentistry?

My TMJD specialist practices Functional Jaw Orthopedics. He has done a great job for me. It is a different approach than neuromuscular. Research the philosophies and decide which makes the most sense to you. That's what I did and have had success. Maybe I would have had the same success with neuromuscular. The end result should be the same. The approach is different.

Hi!! I just wanted to chime in here and say that my current--nearly former--TMD dentist uses a neuromuscular splint and basically this approach, AND was also a Functional Jaw Ortho. He did not do all the testing that many of the true Neuro Muscular dentists do (or at least those who trained at LVI) and unfortunately, I have found that the splint I wore for nearly 4 months only made me worse, no better. I have now discontinued the splint and am trying to decide what to do next. I am also seeing a Chiropractor and massage therapist.

I hope you find the answers you are looking for. I am certainly not suggesting that NM dentistry or FJO would not work for you. Just relaying my experience thus far.

Sincerely,
JawPain
