for me, i tend to get migraines when my facial and neck muscles are extremely tense and sore, which occurs from stress, talking, eating, laughing, etc.

for my pain, ive tried numerous medications, which i dont feel like listing right now.. hehe. too many to list. :|

the only medication ive had some success with controlling my muscular pain was botox. i got 2 rounds of botox injections - the first time, it worked amazingly, and i didnt have much facial pain or migraines for about 3 months. unfortunately, the 2nd round of injections did not work at all, and it made my pain worse.

also, i guess you have to figure out if your pain is primarily muscular and/or from the TMJs, themselves. when the botox worked the first time, i noticed i had pain coming from the joints themselves, which i hadnt noticed before. taking some ibuprofen/vioxx/celebrex helped with the joint pain.

my hypothesis about migraines, at least for myself, is that they're caused by muscular problems, so im wondering if you could go down that route and try muscle relaxants. maybe you could try flexeril? it's a muscle relaxant, and it helped me a bit.

good luck and take care.

- saaraah.

Nik,
When my TMJ pain is at it's worst, nothing works. I have tried migraine meds and threw up right through them. My primary care doctor said it is because these headaches are worse than migraine pain and migraine meds don't work for them. I have dealt with this disorder since 1985 and the only thing I can say that has helped is the neurontin. Since starting on the neurontin, I have had headaches but not the puking ones that last six or seven hours.(Excuse my description here but I am real sick of vomiting)

Dear frank, When my tmj pain got really bad my doctors have put me on vioxx, celebrex, tylenol 3#, 7#, vicodin, darvocette, vicoprofen,Amerge(for migraines), botox, lidocaine patches that go directly on the tmj joint, and the list goes on to stronger pain meds. To be completel and totally honest the meds helped a little, but when I was in a lot of pain, nothing really took it all away, and instead, I felt all drugged, and not like myself, so now i've chose not to take pain meds unless i'm in a whole lot of pain. Cally 22.
