How often did you have adjustments on your neuromuscular splint? I know we are all different, but with long travels to B, I am curious to know if things worked for you after one or two adjustments only. Thanks.
Hi Alex -
Okay, when I first got my splint, I need a tweek like the next day. Then I went like 6 weeks I would say before the next adjustment, in fact they had to call to me! I was still doing really well, but sure enough the next day after they called, I started sensing needing an adjustment. Now, I do not know how severe your case is. Some people can go longer before needing an adjustment. I do not know if he rated you, but I was a 10 on the scale of 1-10.
When do you get your orthotic?
Hope all is well
HI Alex -
I am excited for you. I hope all goes well. I think Dr B told navy she was about a 6 as I recall. I haven't see her on the board for awhile though, from what I remember she gets hers on the 17th or 18th.
I should be getting my night one here anyday now. Are you getting 1 or 2 splints?
I have a mouthguard that you boil yourself and it makes me clench my teeth sometimes. I know it is not a splint but when I bite on it with the back of my teeth it makes my jaw crack and then when I open it is locked? It is weird and I am wondering if a splint can do the same to me? I hope it doesn't but I am just wondering.
Excuse me for jumping in, but Diane, you brought up a point I was curious about. When you went to Dr. B., you got your first splint that you wear all the time, right? Now you're getting an upper and a lower, your day and evening ones.
I think I recall Navy saying she's getting 2 right off the bat. I hope you don't mind me asking you this as Navy doesn't seem to be around. If you can't answer, I understand. Why wouldn't she have started with one splint, like you did and then switch to two. How come she gets 2 right away?
Alex, I hope all goes well on your next visit to Dr. B.
Okay, on a scale of 1-10, my case considered a 10. As I recall from Navy, she said hers was about a 6.
My case, severe Arleen. Because I was so bad, because the muscles were in such terrible spasam, my pain through the roof, Dr B could not start me off with a repositioning splint. He had to first give my exhausted, knotted up face/neck muscles some room to stretch. So he put me in a stablizing splint, that opened my bite up, giving my muscles the room they needed to begin healing.
Now he is going forward with the reposition splints. I am so looking forward to it.
I hope this helps -
Have a good day
B did not mention to me any splints other than the ONE I start with when I asked him to tell me about the whole process. It is supposed to bring my lower jaw forward about 2 mm. I am not sure if I need any additional splints after the first. He would have told me about it. At least I hope so.
