Post addicted need help

Hey all

I have a some what embarrasing problem since Ive had my TMJd. As the pain and ear ringing got worse, I lost more and more sleep and turned to sleeping pills and muscle relaxants for help. Its now been 9 months and I can't sleep at all without pills, can't even nap. I know it makes things worse. I called a detox center because the problem has gotten so bad, but unless Im doing something like cocaine or booze they seem to have no interest in helping me. What can I do? Im so tired.

mdla - have you tried talking to your doctor? the problem w/ sleeping pills is that they reduce your REM sleep.

is it possible to try to reduce the amount you're taking, but not go cold turkey? like, start at 1/3, 1/2, 1/4, etc?

i imagine you'll have some sleepless nights in the beginning, but in the end, i hope that it would work.

good luck.. take care.

- saaraah.

Mdla...try posting on the Addiction and Recovery board on this site...very caring people there and I'm sure they can help you out with some ideas on how to taper off the medication you have become addicted to! This can happen to anyone, so don't feel ashamed! Good luck to you and hope you get to feeling better soon! TC!

You need to be evaluated and diagnosed by a tmj knowledgeable dentist. It seems like your regular md gave you meds but that doesn't cure the problem, get to the cause.
