Does anybody else get swelling, like a lump, under their jaw when having an episode? I have a lump under my jaw, and the doctor said it may be spasms of the masseter muscle. Does anybody have experience with this?
I had swelling under my jaw. It was an enigma that my doctor, dentist, TMJ specialist and ENT couldn't figure out. Finally, my TMJ specialist detected infection in a lower molar. After a root canal, I have not had swelling or soreness in that area.
that's what I figured was causing it. The Doctor put me on an antibiotic just in case, but I don't think it is an infection, since it fluctuates in size. Also, my doctor prescribed muscle relaxers, and I can feel a difference within two hours of taking one.
Your swelling might very well be muscle related and not infection. However, that is what I thought for five years. My swelling fluctuated. My body would get it under control, then it would flare up again. I took lots of antiobiotics, but antibiotics won't cure an infected tooth. The only thing that will cure an infected tooth is a root canal or pulling the tooth. Hope you don't have a tooth infection. I wouldn't rule out anything though.
I went to see my doc today and asked her about my lump on my jaw, she told me that it was a lump of muscle tissue and fibers clogging together caused by an inflammed masseter muscle
