Unhappy HELP--pulled neck muscle causing jaw pain?

Last night I was sticking my tongue out very far (to scrape my tongue) and all of a sudden I got this sharp pain in my jaw. It wasn't quite where the pain associated with my TMJD pain is, it was a little lower.

At first I freaked out, thinking I had done something else to my TMJ. Then I thought maybe I pulled my neck muscle (the one that run up the side of your neck, is it sternomastocleoid or something?) at the top part.

It hurts in that spot in my lower jaw, right below my TMJ) when I open my mouth wide and stick my tongue out, and it hurts in that same place when I blow my nose.

Is this possible that I just hurt the muscle? I do not want to go to my specialist if it is not necessary, because insurance does not pay for it and I do not have the money for it.

PLease help, because I have never done anything like this and I am very afraid I may have damaged my TMJ even more. I would greatly appreciate any opinions.

At this point I wouldn't be too concerned. I would take some ibuprofen three times a day for a week to see if you can reduce the inflamation. That is if you are not allergic to it and can take this medication. I know many people can not take ibuprofen for many reasons such as stomach trouble. Maybe you just pulled a muscle or something like that. It doesn't sound like you are in major pain or anything, so I wouldn't freak out yet.

Thanks for responding. I will try the ibuprofen. You are right that the pain is not very bad. It's a pretty minor annoyance, I am just terrified more than anything. Thanks again!
