I understood your post. I hated depending on meds and refused to believe I would have to take them the rest of my life.

I was fortunate that my own Dentist had education, experience and access to consult with others in his field in treating TMJD problems "After Surgeries".

Finding a Dentist who knows that we can be helped after our disc are removed may take some looking.

If my Dentist had not had any experience with this, I would have asked if he knew anyone that did. If that had not worked, I would have started calling others and ask if they had treated someone in my conditon with success.

If you have not already posted the area you live in and would be comfortable giving your general area, someone on the board may know of someone.

With most TMJD conditions, it's hard to be specific when asking for help or finding a Care Provider who can give you direct answers about what he can or can not do. With our condition, asking a Dentist/Doctor if he has worked with someone without disc is a direct question.

I would not see anyone who has not had training that includes treatment or splint design for those with joints that have been surgically altered.

The basic theory that was applied in designing my splint was similiar as for those who have joints destroyed by osteo & rheumatoid arthritis.
Maybe asking a Dentist if they have worked with people in this condition would be a starting point.

I do believe someone can help you. I'm not that much of an Optimist, I just believe the right person will know what to do for you.
