Which doctor to use???? - TMJ Disorder -TemporoMandibular Joint Message Board

Can anyone tell me the exact type of dentist I should see? One mentions an oral surgeon and one mentions an orthodontist. I am confused as to which one is better. No matter who I end up with I know I want personal refererences and to talk to them to see how their outcome goes. I need to know who it works on and who it harmed more. Thanks, Joyshow

Hi joy: I've been to general dentists, orthodontists and dentists who only treat TMJ patients. Some members see an oral surgeon for splint therapy. I think it all depends on the DDS and how much knowledge and experience he has regarding TMJ. You could consult a few dentists and ask for references and then decide.

Thanks for the information Sue. I arranged to see two different ones so far. Not sure who is the best and all but will do some heavy research into it before I make any more. Joyshow
