weights

hi......can pple with tmj do weights? i did some dumbbell lifting and my neck is hurting. neck feels very sore heavy. abit nauseous too.

i've been told to refrain from weight-lifting; instead, im supposed to do low-impact exercise that doesnt include a lot of strain. i've been doing yoga for the past 4.5 months, and it's great. the changes in my body are really starting to show, since my legs [especially] and arms are getting quite toned and strong.

I haven't read anywhere that you should not lift weights. I work out 5 days/week and that includes an hour of weightlifting each day and I believe it actuall helps my muscles become stronger and I am able to handle more pain. The only thing I have been told is too make sure I am wearing my splint (or if you have a bruxm guard) while lifting because people tend to clench harder when lifting.

I agree with what lucy says. I do weight lifting twice weekly, but agree that I need to wear my splint because sometimes in working hard to lift, I might clench more.

I actually think lifting has really helped me. Just be sure to warm up a lot first. I've got a lot of tightness in my neck/shoulders/upper back and the other day I lifted and strained one of my tight shoulder muscles because I stared out too heavy and didn't warm up my shoulders enough.
