well, It is very important for you to choose an ortho that has had training in tmj
find out what percent of his practice is tmj related. and make sure he gives you a
good diagnosis and make sure that the he gives you a treatment plan(in writing) would
be great. Just from personal experience, I had braces 10 yrs ago and the ortho failed
to take tmj underconsideration and it came back. He didn't close my bite properly(overbite)
Many times dentists/orthos don't consider the relation of the bite to the jaw properly.

Well, my OS recommened my orthodontist. I think my TMJD is being weighed heavily in my treatment. I have a written treatment plan. I know my orthodontist has many adult tmjd patients in splint therapy and then going on to braces. Is there any difference between orthodontics and functional jaw orthodontics?

Functional Jaw Orthodontics is a special technique/process in orthodontics. If you do a web search of Functional Jaw Orthodontics, I think you will find an explanation. My TMJ specialist says he practices Functional Jaw Orthopedics/Orthodontics.
