I am in the midst of a flare up. I hadn't really had any problems with my tmj for about 5 years, now it is back with a vengence. It has been 4 weeks since it started and it escalted over that time. I switch dentists in the meantime and he is getting things back on track. This flare up was caused by dental work and a dentist who knew diddly squat about treating tmj.
Are you in the midst of a flare up?
Yes, I am so new to TMJ pain, I don't know what to expect. That little "ball" under the chin is tender and the ENT and dentist told me that it wasn't a gland but a salivatary thing and it gets tender with TMJ, my jaw hurts a little bit in some places, the gum behind my tooth (This is all on one side) hurts and my sinus that's really close to my eye is really tender and has been burning! Headaches have been a problem and my face feeling warm bothers me too. I don't know, is ALL of this part of TMJ????Jeepers!!!! What do you do for your pain and what kind of pain are you having?
The symptoms from tmj can be endless! I have ear pain, eye pain, severe headaches that have put me in bed for days at a time, nausea, dizziness, muscle spasms in face, head, neck, shoulders, upper back, numbness in nose and top lip, on and on......For pain right now, my dentist has me on Vicodin for pain and Skelaxin for muscle spasms. The meds have helped tremendously. He is the first dentist though to take this seriously enough to give me medication to help. I haven't ever had the salivary lump under my chin be inflammed, but I did have the one in one of my cheeks swell up like a walnut from tmj! UGH.......keep us posted
