Good Morning all

Anyone have facial swelling? I know mine is caused by fluid build up in my joint I have tried steroids that helped for about 4 days now the swelling seems to be getting worse I look like I've gained 8 lb. in my face. My doctor says the next step is to have a procedure done to push out the fluid has anyone had any Other procedures for this. The one my doctor suggests sounds painful or they wouldn't be putting me to sleep I'm a bit concerned about the after effect. Just curious if anyone has had good results from any other ways of draining the fluid. I have to get something done my head throbs ALL day long and I look like a chipmunk I take pain pills every 6 hours which makes me so tired at night when my kids need me the most. Thanks in advance

Hi buffster,
I also have facial swelling, mostly on one side. My swelling is in the masseter muscle (cheek muscle) and the joint so the whole right side of my face is swollen. Heat followed by ice helps me. You can do this in cycles: 10 min heat/10 min ice and always end in ice. I do it while watching TV.

The other thing that helps me with swelling is the therabite appliance. Do a search and you will find it. It is a device that passively stretches the jaw and increases opening. I think it allows trapped fluids to be drained from the muscles and surrounding areas. It is quite expensive but my insurance paid 50%. I think it was worth it.
