Since August i've had pain in my right eye which neither doctors (eye or otherwise) can explain. It started with a couple episodes of awaking with a hot burning sensation that made my eye run intermittently but that gradually subsided. Then after a bout of german measles/rubella at the start of November i started experiencing a dull, throbbing sensation which i can neither define as being in my eyeball or my eyelid - it's hard to distinguish. Over the past 4 weeks it has gradually got worse but has no pattern. It varies from the pain described above to stabbing pain sometimes. It can wake me up in the morning or develop later in the day or not at all. 3 opticians have found nothing wrong whatsoever with my eye.

The trobbing/stabbing pain did start after german measles so my doctor seems to think it might be the remnants of a postviral infection (shingles, weakness etc) which i've been suffering from since gettig rid of the G measles; he also suspected sinusitis, as did my chiropractor, which i was treated for. However my chiropractor (who i see for neck/back problems) also thinks it may have something to do with my jaw. I do wear a mouthguard at night because i clench my teeth which caused me tooth pain but this has subsided over the past couple of years.

Sorry for such a long rambling post! It's just that i'm at the end of my tether! I've been on painkillers on and off now for 4 weeks and it's really beginning to get me down. Pressing around my eye also seems to give relief sometimes. Could this eye pain be TMJ? I know it's a symptom related to it but is it more a pain behind the eyes as opposed to mine which appears to be in my eyelid/ball?

If anyone has any thoughts i'd be so grateful! Also any suggestions would be hugely appreciated i.e. what have people found most effective treatment wise: dentist, chiropractor etc?
