Im new here from the u.k, PLEASE HELP. - TMJ Disorder -TemporoMandibular Joint Message Board

Hello, I have been reading other peoples posts for a while now but have only just joined. I have had tmj for about six years now and Im in so much pain like so many of you on here. The pain is so bad everyday and there seems to be nothing and nobody that can help. Im from the u.k and all I get is a check up at the hospital where they say the same old thing about eating soft foods and trying the mouth guard. By reading peoples posts on here they seem to be trying all sorts of new things but in the u.k they just say you have to live with the pain. When the pain does go a bit you then feel so tired that you have to sleep.

Then you wake up and the pain starts all over again. I got the mouth guard a few years ago and it seemed to help a little first of all but now it just makes the pain worse and it causes alot of pain in my teeth. I had four wisdom teeth removed but I still get pain there even though the teeth are gone. They say you should put heat on your face to help the pain but I get the worse pain inside my mouth so what can you do about that.?

I used to go out all the time but I now just stay indoors and I don't work. Family and friends don't seem to understand what I am going through and just think I am lazy.

Sorry to be going on but I don't know who to turn to. I have so many questions but I will make a new post about that, I just wanted to say hello. Is there anyone else here from the u.k.?

Hi I'm not from the U.K., but I just wanted to say hi and welcome you to the boards. I too have pain in my gums sometimes even though there are no teeth there. I had my wisdom teeth removed about 10 years ago. When I feel them start to hurt it feels like I'm cutting teeth and then I know it's going to be a really bad day pain wise. No one really understands what we go through unless they have TMJ themselves. Do they refuse to give you pain meds at the hospital?

I live in the UK, i understand your troubles completely, i also feel that the doctors dont know what to do with tmjd problems. I have had a couple of splints made but not one has helped me. i am going for an MRI in January. Has your doctor suggested this to you? The only way they can see if you have any problems is through a scan. I have had one MRI scan already but they took it of my brain which is ridiculous as my jaw is sore. I have had this problem for over three years now and everyday is a struggle. I do work however as it helps me to not think about it too much and i just try to get on as best as i can although some days are really bad.

Please let me know if you have had an MRI scan done.

Where about are you from in the UK. There are excellent facial pain clinics in london. I am waiting to go to one after the MRI is done.

Thank you both for replying. The only painkillers I have are nurofen and they don't help. I have not had an MRI scan and it has not been suggested to me. When you say has it been suggested to me, do you mean by my GP or by the consultant I see at the hospital. I don't see my GP about tmj because last time I mentioned it to him he didn't seem to know what tmj was. The consultant at the hospital said to me the only other thing they can try is physiotherapy treatment. I have now been waiting for this for three months but I can't see it helping. I will now be asking for an MRI scan.

I live in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire. So it is only about 20 minutes on the train to London so I might have to check out these facial clinics.

positivethinker: Where do you live in the u.k. How did your tmj start and what are all your symptoms. I hope your MRI scan goes well.

If I don't get a new message before then I hope you both have a great christmas.

I will be dreading christmas because there will be lots of people in the house and they will all be saying how are you now and I will have to say that I am still in lots of pain just like last christmas.

Hello,
Do you see any Functional Jaw Orthepedic dentists over there in UK? Seek them for help. They can truely help tmj patients. I've seen patients who had terrible headaches and got curred by fjo dentists. Now the patient is pain free for over 6 years. "TREAT THE CAUSE, NOT THE SYMPTOMS" Oh by the way, neuromuscular dentists can also cure tmj patients.
