| Please help - Do I have TMJ??
I had all four wisdom tooth extracted 6 weeks ago and am very concerned about TMJ right now. The bottom two were impacted and it was hard to open my mouth wide during the surgery. Right after the surgery, I had swelling for 2-3 days, jaw stiffness, and felt very weak. I lost about 10 pounds as a result of this surgery. Things became worse when I found out I had dry socket a week after the surgery so they put dressing on top of the socket. I have been going to my dentist and another dentist to follow up on my socket every few days and so far they have told me the socket should heal up within a month. The x-rays show there is no bone particles stuck inside. However, they dont know why i still have jaw pain after 6 weeks.
Therefore, I need help in diagnosing if what I have is related to TMJ or not. Here are the symptoms i have that i am very worried about because it could be related to TMJ.
- Pain on left side of upper jaw. It is not acute pain but I feel tightness sometimes in the jaw. I am worried about this because I feel i might have displaced my disc.
- Mouth and Jaw twitches sometimes.
- Eyes itch sometimes and when i rub it, i feel a burning sensation.
- Ear fullness and feeling of clogness.
I have heard somewhere that when people have TMJ they hear popping or clicking sound and fortunately, I dont have that problem when I open my mouth. However, I am having trouble opening my mouth wide.
Can anyone tell me if these are signs of TMJ and whether I need to see someone regarding this or let nature take its course. Sometimes, it is frustrating when dentists tell you that it will all heal up because i am worried that what if I have Jaw dislocated or something serious going on inside my face. I would appreciate any help at this time and sorry for the long post.
Thx in advance,
Neo
