I have been having a lot of jaw pain lately, as well as headaches and very badly want to believe that it is TMJ, but I just don't know. I also suffer from anxiety, which I have been REALLY good about lately (knock on wood) and have had two panic attacks that have prompted me to call 911.
Since then, (a month or so ago for the first one) I have learned to calm myself when I feel the panic setting in.
Anyways, here are some of my symptoms of TMJ (maybe?):
A couple of weeks ago I started having migraine and tension type headaches (I have suffered with headaches as long as I can remember), I noticed that when they would get really bad, at about the same point in time, my jaw would just POP (only on my right side) and make a "grind" kind of noise, and all my pain would be alleviated. In the past few days I have still had the headaches (not nearly as often though) but my jaw has been hurting...BAD.
If I move it a certain direction, I can hear a clicking noise, and it hurts quite badly to chew on my right side.(I couldn't hardly eat the steak I had for my first anniversary dinner last night!) My neck has also been hurting lately, and mainly on the right side near the muscles/tendons that pop up when you stretch your neck. My neck also feels like it must constantly be "popped". I also noticed a weird feeling in my lip. Feels almost like a "pulling" sensation, as if I just made the infamous "Elvis" lip.
I can't afford to go the doctor, otherwise I would just go have him check it out, and as it is I am still paying on hospital bills from a dirtbike accident last fall-not too mention the last two visits and the ambulance transport!
Any input would be GREATLY appreciated, and thank you in advance!
Ryan, I could have written your post myself. That sounds almost exactly like my symptoms, including panic attacks and anxiety. Altho, I can't tell you that you do, in fact, have TMJ. My dr says that is what causes my headaches, and such. Your symptoms sound alot like mine. Most likely TMJ. My neck hurts almost constantly, sometimes w/ the feeling that if I popped it really good, it would feel better. I know I haven't helped any, but what you wrote sounds like my TMJ symptoms....Amy
Thanks Amy, you have helped more than you know! I am just relieved that somebody has the same symptoms as me (as bad as that sounds )...I will go to the doctor as soon as I can afford to, which will hopefully be soon. In the meantime I will just try not too worry too much-for my wife's sake.
Because of the stress and anxiety your under you might have started ginding or clenching your teeth which may be causing your symptoms. The person to see for TMJ is your dentist. Try some over the counter pain relievers till you can go to the dentist and make sure you get some sleep at night. I have started taking magnesium and calcium - take a dose before bedtime- it'll help you relax and sleep.
