Need help for earache pain

Can anyone tell me what helps with their earache pain. Seems my jaw is better but the earache is giving me a lot of grief. I'm on pain meds and that helps. Just started splint therapy a week ago. Thanks in advance

Re: Need help for earache pain

The splint should help. It did me, after a couple of weeks. The night time splint had to be adjusted to keep my jaw from dropping and my teeth from touching my incisors. I do not go w/o the day one for more than 30 min. I eat fast!
I had horrible nagging ear pain until the splint therapy. It is important that it fits correctly. I have a great TMJD specialist in Texas.
Massage also helps , but does not take the place of splint therapy.
I just thank the Lord every day that there was help available. The ear and neck pain was driving me crazy.

Re: Need help for earache pain

Thanks so much for your reply. I'm the same, pop it out, eat like a crazy erson and then pop it back in. Now if I could only get the talking part down. If my co-workers understood how painful it was they would not make fun of me. Thanks again, much appreciated. Is yours an upper or lower splint? Mine is a lower. I'm going to see a specialist tomorrow that my dentist wanted me to see. She can confirm that my dentist made it correctly. (I hope.) Two heads are better that one...unlkess they are on the same person. LOL

Re: Need help for earache pain

I wear a lower for the day, and an upper at night.
Last week my dentist(TMJD specialist) formed another night lower to fit with the upper, because the top one wasn't doing its job, because my ear pain came back. The night lower just fits over my middle bottom incisors. THey really aren't bad to sleep in.

Now, two days later, my ear pain is gone, and the tenderness all around my ear is much better. He keeps working with me, which I am very grateful.
It has been a painful, and sometimes very frustrating journey.
I still watch what I chew, stay away from straws, gum, steak, etc.

And try to stay calm, because stress does aggravate the problem.
No one understands who hasn't been there, and the splints are worth it all if they help with the pain. My students were very patient with me when I first started splint therapy 6 weeks ago. Some could identify because they have braces or retainers.
Hang in there!

Re: Need help for earache pain

Reanell, Can you explain what you mean by having your night time splint adjusted so that your jaw didn't drop? I've read a few posts that say that. My splint is a bottom and I wear it 24/7. Do you know why some people have two splints and why some have one? Thanks
