I have a tongue that burns night and day! I have used mouth washes, salt and water, chewed on ice chips you name it I have tried it. Is a burning tongue a symptom of TMJ? I also have a sore throat and a feeling like there is something stuck in it which makes it hard to swallow. My ear pains and rings,my scalp feels sensitive on the sore ear side when I brush my hair or wear my glasses. (The glasses aroud my ear are torture) ANYONE else with these symptoms??
I am looking for a good TMJ Specialist in Saskatchewan.Any names?

Gee, I never question that. I have TMJ, and last October I develope Burning in my mouth, tongue, throat, with swelling etc., just like you. It didn't even cross my mind that they might be connected. I resolved the burning with getting rid of all chemicals in my diet and dental products that I could, thinking it was an allergic reaction of some sort. (Sodium laurel sulfate) in toothpast & mouthwashes were what I was thinking caused my burning, since I am allergic to sulfites.
I'll pass this advice from my dentist along. he said to gargle with kaopectate (do not swallow it). I did it in the am and pm (just before bedtime). Seemed to help some.I've read that the burning can be caused by an irritated nerve, too, so that may go along with the TMJ. I've yet to find a specialist for the TMJ.
I had all four of my wisdom teeth pulled on June 10, 2005. Last week I went back to the dentist and they said I have a little bit of drysocket and they also advised me to quit smoking. They prescribed HYDROCODONE/APAP 7.5MG/650 MG TABS for pain. This was on Thursday. Since then my tongue burns horribly and there are red spots on it. Every time I have something to eat I have to immediately have something to drink because it burns the crap out of my tongue. The left side of my throat is horribly sore. Every time I swallow, I get an intense pain in my throat. If I touch the left under side of my neck I can touch where the pain is I feel in my throat. Now the problem is no longer with where my wisdom teeth were located, but I have pain every where else in my mouth. Any suggestions????

Reason: misspelled word
There is a "mouth bandage" or "mucosal bandage" that you rinse with for sores and burns. I don't recall the name, but you just rinse your mouth with the product and it's supposed to speed healing time.
I get sores on the inside of my cheeks and the tip of my tongue. I believe they may be caused by my splint. The tongue one is definitely cause by the splint since the tip of my tongue runs up against the titanium pivot point in the front of the splint.
