Question TMJ & FORWARD HEAD POSTURE

Does anyone have any info on this? I started reading about Forward head posture and TMJ... Forward head posture can cause serious problems!!! Anyone familiar with this??? What can you do for FHP and TMJ, and where do you find a good Doc to help??? Let me give a brief history of me.. I've had clicking in my jaw forever, but only a couple yrs back told that it was TMJ. I don't have any severe pain so I never gave it too much thought. Now I have a grinding noise when I chew repetitively or do any serious kissing with my husband (lol). For the last year or so I always wake with very tight neck/shoulder muscles and sometimes headaches and always feel unrested. I have been going to a chiro off and on for a year and recently changed to a new doc. Both Drs. xrayed head/neck and found that I have no cervical curve in the neck and asked if I've ever had whiplash. I definitely have or used to have bruxism, but I didn't know that I had it. Meaning I only do it at night and had no clue. I got braces strictly because of crooked teeth and ortho mentioned the wear spots and that I must be grinding. My neck never feels right, always tight and aches... I have vertigo off and on, tingling sensastion in right side of face... tingling in right arm.. weird other symptoms that I have read here recently all seem to make sense especially with reading about forward head posture... Where can I get help before things get worse???

Re: TMJ & FORWARD HEAD POSTURE

Yea, many TMJ sufferers have FHP. My chiro reccomended me the posture pump. You can search for one online. It works great and helps put the curve back in my neck. I just cant remember to use it everyday. But my girlfriend always tells me to stand up straight, i always slouch or have poor posture. Mention that device to your chiro on the next visit.

Good luck

Re: TMJ & FORWARD HEAD POSTURE

I read in a book to try to think of a string on your head holding it up. Get a book on posture and make sure that your desk is set up right and you chair is at he right height. Sit up straight, keep shoulders back and ears over your shoulder. A good book to read about tmj and how posture affects it is Taking control of TMj by Robert Uppgaard (I think around $12). There are also many other good books out there on posture. Also maybe find a tmj dentist and see if a nightguard might be something for you. I have a bad posture habits but the last couple months I have been really trying to keep my head up and shoulders back.
