An optical migrane can be described as a partial blindness that generally last up to 15-30 minutes. It usually is not painful and it appears that you have a fan blade spinning in your affected eye. It will make you think you are going blind, but you are not. It is good to have any trouble with your vision checked out by a eye doctor though. I have recently discovered that many people with TMD disorder also suffer from optical migranes. Has anyone else been affected by them?

I have had 4 Ocular migraines in the last year. I never really assosiated them with my tmjd. I know one is coming on because what ever I am looking at is hard to focus on. If someone is walking towards me it is as if one side is darker. Then the squiqqley, ziz zags come in right eye. It also looks like ther is a circle of water around visual field. This only lasts a few minutes. I don't have a lot of pain, but I do get a squeezing, pressure and pins and needle sensation after initial onset.. That lasted for a couple of days after.

My other symptoms of tmjd started about the same time as these strange headaches I am going to a new TMJ specialist next Wed. I am going to mention it to him. Do you get any other eye symptoms? Take Care!

Hello...

I was wondering do either you get pain behind your eyes. This has been a frequent problem I've just started having about 2 weeks ago. It comes and goes all day long. Feels like I've put on some prescription glasses which belong to someone else..is the best way I can describe it. Please write me back if anyone else has had this. oh yes..i also have been gettin pulsating headaches.

I don't have any pain behind my eye. I do however get a mild pressure feeling behind my eye and it is always the right side. Which to me feels like glasses are to strong and eye is straining to much. When you say pulsating do you mean pulsating pain? I can feel a pulsation at times when I have these headaches. But for me it is not painful, it just feels really weird. Take care!

Hey to the both of you! Bonnie, the only other vision problems that I have is that I have floaters. They are the little or sometimes big looking translucent pieces of thread? They look like little amoebas you view under the microscope! Anyhow, they seem to be worse when I have TMD related pain. I personally believe that it is related to the pressure and inflamation caused on the eye from the jaw. I can't prove it, and neither can the doctors disprove it!
The other question is if I get pain behind the eye; yes. The pain is usually dull and nagging. It often is associated with facial pain around the cheek bone and behind the ear in the mastoid area(little bump right behind the ear lobe.
There are other times that I have gotten pain behind the eye which is associated with a headache that starts at the top of the head and seems to go right down through my head and ends in the roof of my mouth. When you get one of these headaches, it generally is pain that is referring to the fifth or seventh cranial nerve. They can be very painful and scary. You will need to see your doctor if you are experiencing these types of pain.
