Shooting pain on left side of head
I was wondering if anyone who suffers frmo TMJ pain has expereinced a shooting pain in their head. This pain is not near the joint, but rather in the back of the head shooting toward an area above and slightly behind the ear. I don't have any other headaches or migraines aside from the occasional tension headache.
This happens only on the left side of my head, sometimes once a day, sometimes multiple times per day, sometimes not at all. It can go days without happening and then happen ten times per day. It can happen while I am driving in a car, or watching television or (the worst) teaching a class. The pain is extremely intense, it can take my breath away, but it lasts only a split second and then is gone, with only a sort of tingly feeling remaining.
I am 26 and was diagnosed with TMJ disorder in 1999. I underwent surgery in the summer of 2000 after a splint failed to do any good. Since then my pain has been reduced, but not eliminated. However, this shooting pain has come on in the last year or so, and has increased from once every few months to an almost daily thing.
Thank you in advance for anyone who can help!
