My dentist just told me about a recent study that was done in Texas in which they were trying to find some of the causes of TMJ. This could have had my name on it. One case study was with a patient who had braces when they were younger and had teeth pulled in the process. They found that over the years the teeth try to shift back to their original position. This can go on for years without a problem then TMJ can be triggered all of a sudden even by the smallest event. They have an extensive treatment plan which includes the adjustments to the teeth which I had. I have heard people speculate about the relationship of braces and TMJ but never heard of an actual study that confirmed it.

Thanks for the info. Do you know what study was that? And where can i look it up? I actually knew that a long time ago. This info was in dr. spahl's 3rd book. Thanks in advance.

I didn't get too many details about the study but it was a recent one because my dentist just read about it in one of his newsletters within the past few months. I'll see if I can get more info.

Fits me to a T as well! I had 4 teeth pulled prior to getting braces at age 13.

I had 4 teeth pulled as well but I was in my twenties when I had braces. I have often wondered if that is what caused this. If you find the name of the study please let us know.
