Splint problems... - TMJ Disorder -TemporoMandibular Joint Message Board

Hi, I had mild TMJ problems, nothing really bad, so I had a splint fitted last Thursday and have been back for several adjustments as had trouble getting used to it. Im a musician so have to take it out to work (usually evenings) (Its a hard acrillic lower repositioning splint)

I have had it in for the last 72 hours and am just beginning to get used to it. Now when I take it out my jaw muscles feel really hot, and im getting a constant dull ache only relieved when I put the splint back in. Im really worried I wont be able to work

Is this the muscles repositioning when the splint is out? Is it normal to feel very hot (like a temperature) when you take the splint out? Im wondering whether to leave it out altogether now, I dont want it to make my originally mild TMJ much worse!

It's normal to feel that way. I felt that way at first too. That feeling should pass, but if it doesn't you should definetly call your dr.

Thanks, Ive had the splint out all day now and the feeling is still there, like very tense muscles. Im thinking Ill need a muscle relaxant or something for when I need to sing? It feels fine when the spint is in, its just when i take it out
